Mobile blogging (‘moblogging’) is the latest web trend, combining as it does normal blogging, photo sharing and the portability of a mobile phone. The idea is to share photos immediately with your phone. Add a smart web-interface, easy set-up and simplicity of use and you have SplashBlog, the perfect mobile blogging tool for Series 60 phone users.
Installing SplashBlog was really easy. When we fist came to run the program, it prompted us to set up an account, name our blog and insert an email address and password to manage the blog’s web interface. The whole process took just a couple of minutes but if that’s not quick enough for you, try registering via your Windows PC – even faster!
The basic layout of SplashBlog makes it easy to find your way around in a minute or so. Once your blog is set up and selected, you can get straight to work sending photos and blog entries to your SplashBlog website. This is made even easier by the use of hotkeys, meaning that posting a brand new photo to your mobile blog is only ever a few clicks away. Upload speeds depend as much on image-size as on your mobile phone carrier’s network speed. We found that uploading a medium-sized picture to our blog took around seven seconds and was visible online instantly, a decent turnaround for notoriously slow mobile phones.
Organising your mobile blog is easy with SplashBlog. You can create, rename and delete categories, add or remove photos from your website and send emails to friends to let them know about your new blog. We found the range of features in this part of the program struck the right balance between customisation and confusion, making the whole process of managing our blog an empowering but not overwhelming experience.
The only major issue we experienced during our use of SplashBlog was some instability which was caused by low memory on our test device (we had about seven applications open!). What was worrying about this instability is that it crashed the entire phone, which could have caused data loss if we had unsaved messages or documents open at the time. This must therefore be considered a significant issue, even if we couldn’t repeat it. Users are advised to close other applications before running SplashBlog.
Despite this problem, there’s no doubt that SplashBlog is a winning solution for anyone who wants to blog from their phone. Its simplicity and range of features, as well as the attractive websites it generates make it a recommended program here at Softonic. Now if only SplashBlog could come up with a way to make our phones’ pictures look better!
